Lineage | [Surface Sand Thickness] was calculated with the following expression: [USGS TOPO SURFACE DEM] - [Bottom Elevation of Surficial Sand] The [Bottom Elevation of Surficial Sand] was calculated from the interpreted base of sand on the 33 east-west cross sections and bottom of surficial sand interpreted from all verified location CWI well logs that penetrated the surficial sand. The [Bottom Elevation of Surficial Sand] was calculated by interpolation with the spline method. Next, where the bottom of surficial sand interpolation was calculated to be below the top of X2 aquifer grid, the bottom of surficial sand grid was changed to be equal to the top of the X2 aquifer grid. Last, the spline interpolation can create unacceptable bulls-eye artifacts, either too high or too low. Because of this, areas where the interpolation suggested a depth to bottom of the surficial aquifer that was too deep were corrected to a reasonable depth. Near Long Prairie, in the middle of the largest outwash channel, a maximum depth of 120 feet was considered reasonable. Elsewhere, a maximum depth of 100 feet was more appropriate. Because of this, near the City of Long Prairie, areas where the interpolation suggested a depth to bottom of the surficial aquifer greater than 120 feet were set equal to 120 feet. Away from the city, depths greater than 100 feet were set equal to 100 feet. |
