Lineage | The grid shapefiles for the tops of the buried aquifers were derived from the MGS grid files. Three of the files representing the tops of the sm, sl, and sc sand units were modified to represent only the buried portions of these units. The remaining units (si, sts, stw, and su) required no modification. The modifications to sand units sm, sl, and sc, were made with the following steps. First the surficial portions of the units were removed by finding which portions of the top grid files were below the base of the surface sand (GRID A). Another calculation was made to determine which portions of the base files were below the base of the surficial sand (GRID B). A third calculation was made to determine the extent of the cut-in portions (buried sand that was actually surficial sand, GRID C). The newly calculated cut-in grids were converted to polygon files to be used as masks. The cut-in grid mask was used to extract values from the base of the surficial sand grid to be used as modified top values for the cut-in portions of the sand units. Grids A and C were combined with conditional statements in spatial analyst to produce the final grids. |
