Wildfire Community Preparedness Day

The National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) sponsors Wildfire Community Preparedness Day to get people thinking about how to prevent wildfires.

To encourage folks to participate, NFPA offers $500 grants to families, neighborhoods, community groups, and others to develop a project to prevent wildfires. The projects need not be elaborate: the group lists several project ideas on its website, including cleaning up debris around homes and helping seniors do yardwork.

Project grants are open to teens and adults and must be used for a wildfire prevention event on May 1, 2021. The application period opens in January 2021.

The DNR invests significant time and energy in wildfire prevention outreach and campaigns to make people aware of wildfire danger and encourage them to reduce wildfire risk to their homes. During the wildfire season, we have hundreds of wildland firefighters, and millions of dollars' worth of firefighting equipment, on hand to suppress wildfires across the state.

Help us help you prevent wildfires by applying for a grant and participating in Wildfire Community Preparedness Day on May 1, 2021.

Remember, only YOU can prevent wildfires.
