Public can learn about accessibility updates to William O’Brien State Park at upcoming open house

A construction project to bring accessibility updates to William O’Brien State Park is slated to begin in September. The Minnesota Department of Natural Resources invites the public to learn more about the project at an open house Thursday, June 15 from 4-6 p.m. in the Zephyr Room at the Wildwood Library in Mahtomedi.
Volunteers needed in select northeastern Minnesota counties for DNR loon survey

The Minnesota Department of Natural Resources is seeking volunteers to help monitor the loon population in Aitkin, Cook, Crow Wing, Itasca and Lake counties. Volunteers are needed for a minimum of one morning during the June 30 through July 10 monitoring period, to count the number of adult and juvenile loons on pre-selected lakes.
June is Great Outdoors Month in Minnesota

Gov. Tim Walz and Minnesota DNR are encouraging Minnesotans to get out in nature and enjoy the state’s outstanding outdoor opportunities by proclaiming June 2023 as Great Outdoors Month. The proclamation cites the health and wellness benefits of spending time outdoors as one of the many reasons to encourage Minnesotans to get outdoors.
ATV riders can explore Minnesota trails for free

Riders with an all-terrain vehicle registered for private or agricultural use won’t need to pay the registration fee to ride the state’s public ATV trails June 10-11. This is the 10th year that Minnesota is providing ATV riders with free access to more than 3,000 miles of state forest and grant-in-aid trails during an annual no registration weekend.
