• Grand Portage State Forest is located in Cook County about 10 miles northeast of Grand Marias.
•If you appreciate smaller campgrounds, Grand Portage State Forest offers you three campgrounds—Devilfish Lake, Esther Lake, and McFarland Lake—with five or fewer campsites.
•The forest offers a total of nine water accesses, McFarland Lake, located at the end of the Arrowhead Trail, serves as an entry point to the eastern edge of the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness. Parking is available.
• Grand Portage State Forest also offers great connections to other recreational opportunities such as the Border Route Trail, Grand Portage Trail in the Grand Portage Indian Reservation, and Judge C.R. Magney State Park.

• Portions of this state forest is classified for the purposes of motor vehicle and OHVs usage as managed and limited. Refer to state forest map for details. Spring temporarily trail and road closers are now in affect due to wet conditions. Signs will be posted at entry points and parking lots. The closures include all unmarked roads and trails, unless specifically listed. |
