Rum River State Forest

• Rum River State Forest is in western Kanabec and northern Mille Lacs counties. This state forest is broken into three areas. The largest area is located between State Highway 47 and U.S. 169 just south of Mille Lacs WMA. The second area is located just west of Onamia and south of Mille Lacs Kathio State Park, and the third is located between Highway 169 and Morrison County, north of Four Brook WMA.
• Enjoy this state forest while staying at Mille Lacs Kathio State Park, which borders the smaller portion of the Rum River State Forest. Or camp right in the forest!
Fall Color Scenic Drive: Rum River State Forest offers a great fall color route. Travel along Rum River State Forest Road off of Highway 20 or Apple Street south between Kanabec County Road 56 and Mille Lacs 220th St in early October for best color. Want more options? OHV Riding Restrictions During Deer Hunting Season

•Notice: Groomed snowmobile trails, as signed, are closed Dec. 1 to off-highway vehicles (OHVs) and highway licensed vehicles (HLV's).
The forest's large wetland areas may limit use of major portions of the trails.
•State forest roads are open to highway-licensed vehicles. There are no off-highway vehicle riding opportunities in this forest.
