Yet another potent winter storm dropped a band of moderate to heavy snow across Minnesota. This latest storm moved from Montana on Monday, December 29 to northeast Iowa by the afternoon of Tuesday, December 30. The snow began just after midnight in west central Minnesota then slid to the east. The area that received the most snow was roughly along I-94 from Fargo to St. Cloud, then eastward to Rush City. The highest snow total reported from this latest storm in Minnesota was 15.7 inches seven miles south of Hillman in Morrison County. The snow fell as large fluffy flakes where it was snowing the heaviest and this helped to increase snow fall totals.
There has now been measurable snow in the Twin Cities on 15 days in December including the snow on December 30. Measurable snow normally happens on 9 days of the month. The most days there has been measurable snow in December in the Twin Cities since 1948 is 19 days in December 1969.
