During the early morning hours of July 1, heavy rains fell in extreme north central Minnesota. The rain was associated with a warm front lifting to the northeast over northern Minnesota, separating a hot air mass over central and southern Minnesota from cooler air in the north. Hardest hit was the Highway 53 area south of International Falls. The International Falls Airport reported three inches of rain in three hours, creating localized flooding on Highway 53 leading into town. The highest 24-hour precipitation total found thus far is 4.50 inches near Kabetogama Lake in St. Louis County.
