September 2012 was one of the driest Septembers on record for Minnesota and throughout the surrounding region. Dry conditions during the month of September continued the drought trend from the Summer months for most of the region. The Twin Cities had the second driest September on record with .30 inches, the driest September is .27 inches in 1882.

September 2012 precipitation values were some of the lowest on record. Fargo's September 2012 precipitation value was the lowest ever recorded with 2.45 inches below normal. St. Cloud recorded the second driest September on record. Both Duluth and International Falls were also dry, and finished in the top 10 driest Septembers on record.
