Another round of snow hits Minnesota.
A low pressure area over Montana late on March 3rd drifted to the southeast and was located over southern North Dakota by the afternoon of March 4th. By the morning of March 5th the low had weakened and was over southern Minnesota. Snow came in two separate waves across the state. The first wave was during the overnight and morning hours of March 4th. The heaviest snowfall with this first wave fell in southwest Minnesota, where some places saw 3 to 5 inches of snow. It snowed thought the day over northern Minnesota and eastern North Dakota. 7 inches fell on March 4th at Grand Forks.
The heavier event for southern and central Minnesota began during the evening hours of March 4th and continued through the night and into the day on March 5. One of the heaviest snow totals found so far from both rounds of snow is 12 inches at Karlstad. Generally 7 to 10 inches of snow fell over the Twin Cities. The storm total at the Twin Cities International Airport was 9.3 inches. 3.9 inches fell on March 4 and 5.4 inches fell on March 5.
