It was another busy weekend for weather as the Metro area continues to float between pleasant conditions and storms. Starting out on this past Saturday, June 15th 2013, the southern and central portions of Minnesota was caught in yet another storm. This system was coming in from Nebraska early on in the day and tracked Northeast across a large portion of Minnesota. The storm's main feature were showers and thunderstorms that ran rampant and created plenty of flash flooding.

The University of Minnesota St. Paul Campus weather station reported 0.86 inches of precipitation over the span of 15 minutes at 3:45 PM CDT. Highway 280 near Lauderdale was closed due to flooding. As well as the underpass of Highway 36 on Fairview closed due to flooding. A location in Roseville reported 1.90 inches for total rainfall.

Father’s Day, June 16th 2013, started out with ideal June conditions for the Metro area. However, around 5:00 PM through 6:30 PM the western metro experienced a fast moving and intense storm. The system’s main feature was wind, places like Plymouth, Eden Prairie and Benson in Swift County experienced 45+ MPH gusts. These winds can be strong enough to break down small branches. Additionally, other portions of the storm produced light hail and rain was intermittent across the storms path. With these storms, the winds caused a mini-blizzard of seeds from trees that pelted people who were outdoors.

Below is the local storm report created by the NWS Chanhassen office.
