Severe thunderstorms developed ahead of a strong cold front during the morning hours of September 19th. These storms moved to the northeast and caused heavy downpours, large hail and some damaging winds. Most of the severe weather occurred in a narrow swath from Yellow Medicine County in southwest Minnesota, then to Hutchinson in Mc Leod County and then northeast to Isanti and Chisago Counties where the storms weakened as they crossed into Wisconsin. The heaviest rainfall associated with these storms was in Sherburne County with one CoCoRaHS report north of Big Lake of 3.16 inches, with 2.98 inches falling in 45 minutes. Another report near Zimmerman in Sherburne County was 2.74 inches. In general the rain was welcomed in areas with a parched landscape, although there was some street flooding reported in downtown Monticello.

There was an injury reported in Hutchinson when a large tree fell on a vehicle. Other trees were reported down in the Blaine Area. Some large hail was reported as well. Hail the size of hen's eggs fell 2 miles south of Cambridge.

Listed below are storm reports from the National Weather Service.
