Heavy Rain and Tornadoes: August 6, 2015

On Thursday, August 6, there was a weak area of low pressure over the Dakotas and this was the trigger for a few severe storms and some heavy rains over central Minnesota. There were four tornadoes reported with three in Kandiyohi County and one in Swift County. These counts are preliminary and may not the be final tally. There was a report of damage to a roof at Hawick in Kandiyohi County from one of these tornadoes.

There were some heavy rains too with these storms with the heaviest amount found so far of 4.20 inches at Kimball in Stearns County. Much of Minnesota received at least some rainfall. In general the rainfall was a welcome sight with a late summer dry spell affecting most of Minnesota. Some of the places that needed the rain the most was in St. Louis County where from an inch to an inch and a half fell.
