Heavy rains fell over southern and central Minnesota during the evening and overnight hours of August 13-14, 2017
A weak area of low pressure over the eastern Dakotas and the associated warm front to the east of this low spawned thunderstorms across west central and southwest Minnesota during the afternoon of August 13, 2017. These storms drifted east and dropped heavy rains, but little in the way of severe storms in Minnesota, save for a report of golf ball-sized hail in western Nobles County near Rushmore. This was also the area the some of the heaviest rains fell with estimates of four inches. Other heavy rains fell in pockets around the southern half of the state. A volunteer rain gage reader near Montevideo in Chippewa County saw 3.96 inches of rain. Another observer near Glencoe reported torrential rains between 9:30 and 10:30pm in McLeod County and had a 24 hour total of 3.79 inches.
