Warm, muggy air returned to Minnesota, after being absent for much of the spring. On June 16, the dew point temperature rose above 60 degrees for the first time of the year at the Twin Cities International Airport. A band of heavy showers and thunderstorms developed to the northeast of a stationary front over South Dakota and Iowa and dropped some good soaking rains over a wide swath of southern and central Minnesota. One half to one-and-a-half inches of rain fell over some of the driest spots in Minnesota. Normally, about an inch of rain a week falls in June, so there is a long way to go to recover from the precipitation deficit in the Twin Cities. Even after receiving .65 inches of rain on June 16, the Twin Cities is still .42 inches short for the month and 4.56 inches short for the year.
While most of the rain was welcome, especially over drought-stricken east central Minnesota, there was too much rain over a small portion of west central Minnesota in Wilkin County. The highest total found in Wilkin County was 6.88 inches in Mitchell Township. Some basement and flooding of roads was reported in parts of Wilkin County and nearby Abercrombie, North Dakota.
Below is a list of precipitation reports from the National Weather Service.

TEMPERATURE DATA REPRESENT THE HIGHEST AND LOWEST TEMPERATURES REPORTED ON A STATIONS OBSERVATIONS TRANSMITTED THREE TIMES AN HOUR AND MAY NOT NECESSARILY BE THE HIGHEST OR LOWEST TEMPERATURE THAT OCCURRED AT THE SITE. THE PRECIPITATION VALUE AT THESE SITES IS AN ESTIMATE BASED ON THE P-GROUP IN THE OBSERVATION. SNOWFALL AND SNOW DEPTH ARE REPORTED WHEN CURRENT DATA IS AVAILABLE.
