Geneva WMA

County: Freeborn
Nearest Town: Geneva
Area: 86 ac

Directions: This WMA is located on the SW side of Geneva.

Description: This WMA is primarily lowland habitats of shrub swamp and canary grass slough. Management aims are to protect wetland habitats along an inlet to Geneva Lake.

The area provides good wildlife watching opportunities for waterfowl, great-blue herons and other marsh denizens. Hunting opportunities are best for small game, especially cottontail rabbits, and pheasants.

Control of purple loosestrife and buckthorn are management priorities. Prescribed burning, farming and cutting are primary management tools

At this scale, these WMA boundaries are general, and do not accurately represent the actual legal boundaries. WMA users still need to verify public lands boundaries by observing boundary signs and contacting local DNR Wildlife offices.
