Itasca County

Little Sand Lake, Itasca County.

Surveys of aquatic plants in Itasca County from 2000-2002 yielded locations of eleven species of rare plants and detailed lists of aquatic plants for each of 276 lakes surveyed. These data have potential use in Itasca County's Lake Sensitivity and Classification Project, which provides analyses of lakes to guide zoning and planning.

Among the rare plants found during the surveys are awlwort (Subularia aquatica), American shore plantain (Littorella uniflora), Vasey’s pondweed (Potamogeton vaseyi), slender water naiad (Najas gracillima), dragon’s mouth orchid (Arethusa bulbosa), humped bladderwort (Utricularia gibba), spiny-fruited coontail (Ceratophyllum echinatum), and leafless water milfoil (Myriophyllum tenellum).
