District 10 - Mille Lacs area

Last updated: 2024-05-06

CO Gregory Verkuilen (Garrison) checked lake activity and found moderate angler success for crappies and perch. Better weather this week resulted in more turkey hunting activity and success. ATV traffic was monitored. Riders are encouraged to let sod get established as rights-of-way dry out.

CO Victoria Griffith (Isle) monitored area ATV-riding, turkey hunting, and angling activity. Griffith assisted with the kindergarten DNR day in Aitkin and an ATV safety class in Isle. Enforcement action was taken for angling without a license and driving an ATV in a state park. A reminder to boaters to check for all safety equipment before hitting the water for the first time this year.

CO Joseph Scholz (Malmo) patrolled for turkey hunters and anglers. Rain the past week has helped lake levels to come back up a few inches and many recreators have been getting boats and docks in for the upcoming season. Clear skies and warmer weather over the weekend had many people out and about on ATVs. Scholz also assisted with a big-game case in a neighboring station and helped with an ATV class in Isle. Enforcement action was taken for trespassing and angling without a license. Remember to buy your angling license and make sure boat registration is up to date before this weekend. Have a safe and successful opener!

CO Dan Starr (Onamia) worked spring fish run and bowfishing activity. Shore anglers were targeting panfish, and some forgot to buy their 2024 fishing license. Work plans for opening of fishing were made, and assistance was provided to local law enforcement agencies.

CO Ashley Whiteoak (Aitkin) spent time patrolling fishing, turkey hunting, trapping, and ATV-riding activity. Enforcement action was taken for youthful operators/passengers on an ATV without a helmet, permitting youth unlawful operation on an ATV, Class 1 ATV passenger violation, expired ATV registration, operating an ATV without lights, operating an OHM in a public road right-of-way, unregistered OHM, allowing youth unlawful operation on an OHM, and no angling license in possession. She also checked an angler who did not have an angling license, which led to a warrant arrest. She also provided a ride-along, assisted with an ATV safety class, and coordinated a DNR day at a local elementary school.

Wealthwood vacant.
