Comments: The FiN Program conducted a fish survey in late August 2009 and found northern pike to be abundant and of good size. Bluegill numbers were average. Battle Creek Lake likely experienced a partial winterkill during winter of 2009-2010. Fish populations will be monitored in spring/summer of 2010 to determine extent of winterkill.
Much of the shoreline is marshy and vegetated leaving the fishing pier as the best place to fish. Also, a canoe or kayak will get one out along the vegetation line where pike and bass like to hang out. Aquatic vegetation can become quite thick in the summer so early summer can be the best time to fish. Ice fishing in the winter can be very good at times, if you try this be aware of the aeration system that can create areas of thin ice.
