Four-wheel drive vehicle grants-in-aid (GIA)
Program Purpose: To encourage maintenance, development, and acquisition of public, locally controlled four-wheel drive vehicle trails and areas.
Eligible Projects: Off-road vehicle GIA project administration, trail development, maintenance, improvements, and acquisition.
Who May Apply: Off-Road Vehicle (ORV) organizations through counties, cities or townships.
Priorities: First priority is given to the maintenance of existing facilities that support significant public use. Second priority is given to improvement of existing facilities. Third priority is given to the creation of new facilities.
Level of Assistance: Up to 65% of total eligible costs for trail and facility development, acquisition, administration, and mailings. Trail grooming, maintenance, and insurance costs are cost shared up to 90% of total eligible costs (maximum grant amount for insurance costs is $1350).
General Information: This program was authorized in 1993 by the State Legislature. It is modeled after the Snowmobile and ATV Grants-in-Aid Programs. It is a locally executed program that encourages the development and maintenance of locally controlled trails. It is designed to encourage club and volunteer involvement.
How to Apply: Application forms are available from the regional Parks and Trails Supervisors (find area supervisors in the PDF under Contact Information) and are due in the DNR area office by November 30.
