Take fall color reports on the road with you!
Catch the colors as they peak - here you can find fall color reports provided by staff at Minnesota state parks and recreation areas from across the state. Reports include percent of color change, integrated with Google maps. The reports are updated by noon every Thursday.

Colors typically peak between mid-September and early October in the northern third of Minnesota, between late September and early October in the central third, and between late September and mid-October in the southern third (which includes the Twin Cities).

LakeFinder FAQs

LakeFinder - Frequently Asked Questions

Why isn't LakeFinder available on iPhones? Will an iPhone app be available in the future?

LakeFinder was built using our existing tools and hardware. Yes, we hope to support a number of platforms in the future, in addition to this initial Android effort.

What new features does LakeFinder mobile app offer?

  1. You can mark lakes as favorites so that you can quickly return to that lake information. LakeFinder mobile app saves copies of a favorite lake's data so it can be accessed even if the phone has no network access.
  2. Use your current location (based on the phone's built-in GPS device) to search for nearby lakes.
  3. Search from a map using Android's built-in Google Maps support.

Can I find even more information on the website?

Yes! The online version of LakeFinder is a great tool to use in addition to the mobile app. On our website, you will be able to find information on water clarity/quality and view additional lake maps.

Does the LakeFinder mobile app save data on my phone?

When you mark a lake as a favorite, the application stores away copies of the various web reports on your phone. So, even if your phone is out of network, you can still access the LakeFinder information for your favorite lakes. You control the cache size and if you want this feature enabled. If you deselect a lake as a favorite, the lake's cached data is removed.

Take the MN DNR’s lake information off-line and on the go with the LakeFinder app. Have thousands of lake surveys, depth maps, and vegetation reports, plus water quality and clarity data literally in the palm of your hand. The LakeFinder contains data for more than 4,500 lakes and rivers throughout Minnesota and the application allows you to get the information on demand with an internet connection or save it to your device for off-line access.
