Buffalo River State Park

Prairie lovers, this park is for you. Trails wind through one of Minnesota's finest and largest remnant prairies. Listen for bobolinks, prairie chickens, marbled godwits and upland sandpipers. A picnic area, swimming area and campground are located in the hardwood forest along the Buffalo River. The park is only 14 miles from the large metropolitan area of Fargo, North Dakota - Moorhead, Minnesota.

Visitor Alert!

The water is off in the park. This means the shower building, dump station and beach bathrooms will be closed for the winter season. The campground will close for the winter season on Sunday, October 18th.

The campground is open. All campsites at Buffalo River State Park are reservable. We encourage you to reserve your campsite in advance. Any site not reserved, is available for drop-in camping for one night only. Use self-registration if park staff is unavailable. If additional nights are desired, check with park staff for availability.

Deer hunt in November

There will be a deer hunt in Buffalo River State Park on November 7 through November 8. The park will be open to visitors and hunters with a valid special hunt permit during the deer hunt. View map PDF
