Public hunting opportunities

The Minnesota Forest Legacy Program has acquired public hunting rights and other public recreation opportunities on more than 250,000 acres of actively managed forest lands in Aitkin, Beltrami, Cass, Clearwater, Crow Wing, Koochiching, Lake, St. Louis, and Itasca counties. Opportunities include:

  • Recreation opportunities include hunting, trapping, fishing, hiking, cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, and birdwatching.
  • Check the individual Forest Legacy Area maps for motor-use restrictions.

To locate Minnesota Forest Legacy Program public hunting opportunities, select a township section by selecting on the red box. Selecting will open a PDF that displays a printable view of the area.

All map data representing public land boundaries are general and at this scale DO NOT accurately represent the actual legal boundaries and thus should be used for reference only, not navigation to or on public lands. Please respect private property and verify public lands by observing boundary signs and contacting local DNR offices. State forest lands, represented in green on the PDF, also includes a patchwork of public and private lands. For a detailed map of public lands within a state forest, go to the individual state forest's Web page.
