Minnesota has about 1,400 wildfires annually. Many of these have been small, harmless grass fires that threaten little more than a patch of grass and brush. Some have destroyed forest timber that could have been utilized, while others have destroyed property, homes and cabins.
Over 98 percent of the wildfires in Minnesota are caused by people. These are all preventable fires. Minnesota's Fire Prevention program is designed to reduce the number of wildfires by helping people understand how wildfires occur so they can help prevent them.
