Twig Area Trail Riders ATV Trail System EAW

Project summary

The Twig Area Trail Riders ATV Club is proposing a project that would include approximately 510 miles of roadway and natural surface trail alignments as part of their proposed trail system. The project plans to utilize existing trails, construct trails to connect existing segments, and allow for seasonal (spring, summer, and fall) motorized all-terrain vehicle (ATV) and off-highway motorcycle (OHM) use. The proposed project aims to connect communities in Carlton and St. Louis counties to the trail system.

The DNR, as the Responsible Governmental Unit (RGU) for environmental review of the project, is accepting comments on the EAW.

Public comment period

The EAW was published in the Sept. 1, 2026 edition of the EQB Monitor. A 30-day public review and comment period will be open from Sept. 2, 2026, until 4:30 p.m. Oct. 1, 2026.

Because all comments and related information are part of the public record for this environmental review, commenters’ names and email or postal addresses will be published and publicly available as they appear in the materials commenters submit.
