DNR cautions about uneven conditions as ice season gets underway

Anglers in some parts of Minnesota have been venturing onto the ice for several weeks, while water remains open in other parts of the state. So far in December, weather in the state—which has included rain, snow and fluctuating temperatures—has affected ice-making and impacted ice that’s already formed.


Public has opportunity to comment on management of Lake Maria

The management plan identifies new triggers that will guide when specific actions will be used, such as periodic drawdowns. The updated triggers are tied to water quality benchmarks, as well as abundance of aquatic plants, common carp, fathead minnows and bullhead. Public comments will be accepted through Jan. 20.

Afton State Park to close during special hunt this weekend

Afton State Park will be closed to all visitors beginning at 6 p.m. Friday, Nov. 5 for a special deer hunt. The state park will reopen to the public at 8 a.m. Monday, Nov. 8. The purpose for the hunt is to prevent overpopulation of deer and to protect resources.


Temporary off-highway vehicle restrictions begin with firearms deer opener

Recreational use of off-highway vehicles (OHVs) will be restricted in some areas where hunters may use rifles during the firearms deer hunting season, according to the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources.


DNR and partner agencies to continue innovative search for invasive carp

Beginning Monday, Oct. 25, the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources will lead a second intensive invasive carp removal effort in Pool 8 of the Mississippi River near La Crosse, Wis. Thirty-four silver carp were captured in Pool 8 during the first interagency carp removal operation in April.


Zebra mussels confirmed in Upper South Long Lake in Crow Wing County

The Minnesota Department of Natural Resources (DNR) has confirmed a report of zebra mussels in Upper South Long Lake, near Brainerd in Crow Wing County. Five hundred feet of the Nokasippi River immediately upstream and downstream of South Long Lake will also be listed for zebra mussels.

Archery deer hunt set for East Minnesota River Refuge
