DNR’s fiscal year 2025 advertising expenditures

In alignment with MN Statute, section 15.442, the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources (DNR) has published the following summary of its advertising expenditures.

During fiscal year 2025, the DNR’s total advertising spending was $643,439.74.

Of the total advertising spending, local media* advertising totaled $524,989.98, approximately 90 percent of the total spend. This includes:

  • Local television: $8,624.86 (1.64%)

  • Local newspapers**: $353,365.98 (67.31%)

  • Local radio***: $111,091.63 (21.16%)

*MN Statute section 15.442 included five criteria in its definition of “local media.” The DNR was unable to conclusively determine whether any media outlets met the 5th criterion: “Outlet received less than 10% gross receipts from PACs.” The information provided for fiscal year 2025 exclude this criterion.

**Radio spending includes some spending on digital audio platforms (e.g. podcasts).

***Newsprint spending includes some spending on local magazines and digital news platforms.
