About Preliminary and Final Local Climatological Data

Temperatures, rainfall, snowfall (some locations), wind speed/direction, and other weather measurements are collected by the National Weather Service and the Federal Aviation Administration at many of the country's larger airports. The measurements are made by automated weather stations, along with some human augmentation. Monthly tabulations of daily summaries of these data are offered as a document titled Local Climatological Data (LCD). Preliminary LCDs are posted in real time data and are subject to revision. For some locations, the data undergo quality control screening and are published as final LCDs roughly two months after the fact.
