Rain and Snow: April 26-27, 2011

The Twin Cities has eighteen straight hours of rain, and the Minnesota Twins have their second rain out of the season.

A deepening low pressure area moved from Missouri to southwest Wisconsin during the day on April 26 and spread a shield of steady rain across much of central and southern Minnesota. The heaviest rain fell over east central and southeast Minnesota where 24 hour totals were over an inch. The Twin Cities International Airport saw 1.46 inches of rain, the most rain ever recorded on April 26. It broke the old record of 1.26 inches that was set in 1893.

The rain mixed with and changed to snow over parts of northern and central Minnesota during the evening hours of the 26th and into the early morning of the 27th. Duluth measured one inch of snow with Tower seeing some of the heaviest snow in Minnesota with 3.6 inches.
