Heavy Snow in Northern Minnesota: January 28-29, 2013

A narrow band of heavy snow fell from Fargo to just east of International Falls from around noon on January 28th to the early morning hours of the 29th. This snow was associated with a strong cold front over eastern North Dakota. The heaviest snowfall was in a band about 40 miles wide from Wilkin County northeastward to Koochiching County. Six to ten inches of snow were reported in this band. The deepest snow report found so far in Minnesota include a foot of snow at a station 12 miles northeast of Detroit Lakes and also at Pennington.

OF 10 TO 13 INCHES OCCURRED WITHIN THE HEAVIEST SNOWFALL...WITH
LESSER AMOUNTS ON EITHER SIDE OF THIS BAND. A SHARP CUT-OFF IN SNOW
TOTALS OCCURRED ON THE EDGES OF THE SNOW BAND...WITH LITTLE OR NO
SNOW FALLING NORTHWEST OF A LINE FROM VALLEY CITY TO HILLSBORO
NORTHWARD INTO THE NORTHERN RED RIVER VALLEY.
