Minnesota saw another round of heavy rains with a handful of tornadoes in the south.

June 14, 2016 was another active day across Minnesota as thunderstorms rolled across southern and central Minnesota in the morning with stronger storms redeveloping in the afternoon. A low pressure area over eastern South Dakota and a warm front over southern Minnesota was the focal point for the severe storms in the afternoon and evening hours of the 14th. The storms received a bit of a boost in south central Minnesota with a little sunshine out ahead of them and dew point temperatures reaching the low 70s. A preliminary count of eight tornadoes occurred, but damage appears to be minimal.

The real damage was done by the heavy rains. The ground already had plenty of moisture present in southern Minnesota and the added rainfall and caused ponding in farm fields, and flooded some roads. Soybeans were reported to be underwater in some fields in Waseca County. One of the harder hit areas was Blue Earth County, where up to six inches of rain fell in some places. One of the highest totals reported was 5.25 inches from a volunteer rain gauge reader 2.4 miles southwest of Mankato. At least three county roads were closed at one time in Blue Earth County due to flooding and mud slides. Waseca saw 3.19 inches. The Twin Cities International Airport saw 1.49 inches of rain.

June is proving to be a wet month for south central and southeast Minnesota. From June 1-15 Waseca in south central Minnesota saw 4.37 inches of rain or 2.07 inches above normal. La Crecent Dam in Houston County had 6.34 inches for the first half of June or 4 inches above normal.
