A hot, muggy air mass led to the highest temperatures of the year to date, along with the highest heat index values across many parts of Minnesota during the weekend of June 21-22, 2025.
After a very stormy night from the 20th into the 21st, steamy air moved into Minnesota on Saturday. Temperatures rose into the 90s F over all but northeastern Minnesota, and dew point temperatures rose into upper 60s and low to mid-70s F, indicative of humid, sticky conditions. This combination of heat and humidity led to Heat Index values of 100 to 110 F across much of the state.
Temperatures on Saturday night dropped slowly, only reaching the mid-70s to low-80s F in parts of central and southern Minnesota. The Twin Cities airport recorded its first low temperature of 80 F or higher since August of 2013, and would repeat the feat, with a low of 82 F, on Sunday the 22nd.
On Sunday, a cold front in northern Minnesota led to some relief with clouds and showers, but the stifling air mass led to more sultry conditions in southern Minnesota. Temperatures again rose into the 90s F with dew points in the 70s F, leading to heat Index values of 100 to 110 F.
The highest temperatures recorded in Minnesota during the weekend included 101 F at Marshall, 100 F at Granite Falls, and 99 F at Canby, Lamberton, Madison, and Milan. Many stations broke daily high temperature records, include St. Cloud and the Twin cities, both with 96 F on June 21st.
