Rice Lake State Park

The park office is a good place to see the colors of the tall prairie grasses against a backdrop of the reds and yellows of the surrounding hardwoods. Take the Hiking Club trail (2.4 miles) to check out the lakeshore, woods, and both the east and west prairies.

Mille Lacs Kathio State Park

Most of the leaves have fallen throughout the forest due to strong winds recently. Some trees such as oaks and aspens are holding on to some of their colorful leaves. However, the best color right now is coming from tamaracks. On the trail's boardwalk you can get a close up look at the tamaracks before they loose their golden needles.
