Program legacy
The Outdoor Recreation Grant Program requires that all previously funded parks be maintained and operated solely for outdoor recreation purposes into perpetuity unless a change is approved by the DNR and/or National Park Service (NPS) through a formal Conversion of Use. This requirement has been in place since 1965 with the goal of creating a network of close to home recreation opportunities.
