Continued habitat restoration project prompts temporary liberalized fishing on Lake Wakanda

The Minnesota Department of Natural Resources is liberalizing fishing regulations on Lake Wakanda in Kandiyohi County from Dec. 18 through Feb. 27, 2022. The liberalized fishing rules are in response to a lake rehabilitation project that will temporarily draw down water levels.

DNR certifies new state record for muskie

An angler caught a muskellunge weighing 55 pounds, 14 ounces, from Mille Lacs Lake that the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources has certified as a weight-based state record. The previous record was a 54-pound muskie caught from Lake Winnibigoshish in 1957. Although news of the fish has spread quickly in the news and social media, a record is not official until the certification process is complete.
Lake Vermilion creel survey begins

Ice anglers fishing Lake Vermilion this winter may be asked to participate in the lake’s first winter creel survey since the winter of 1985-1986. Creel clerks from the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources will be traveling the lake on foot or on snowmobile to interview ice anglers about their harvest through Feb. 27.
Positive test on 1 Brainerd Lakes area deer extends CWD management to 2024

DNR to rescind rule temporarily banning farmed deer movement into and within Minnesota

An emergency rule temporarily prohibiting the importation and movement of farmed white-tailed deer into and within Minnesota will be rescinded on Monday, Dec. 6. The temporary rule, which has been in effect since Oct. 11, is one tool the Department of Natural Resources has used to reduce further spread of chronic wasting disease and protect the health of Minnesota’s wild deer.

DNR: Caution vital as open water begins to freeze

With a deadly open-water season nearly in the rearview mirror, the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources reminds everyone that lakes and ponds throughout the state have started to freeze – and that where ice hasn’t formed, the water is dangerously cold. It’s up to all people to choose to stay safe around the water or ice, according to the DNR.
