Social Media Community Terms of Use
The purpose of the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources’ official social media accounts is to share information about the DNR and the programs, services and products we provide. Our accounts follow the general rules of respectful civil discourse. The DNR social media team monitors official accounts but is not responsible for content created by users. Users who choose to participate on DNR social media accounts must follow these community terms of use.
As used here, “posts” include user-generated content such as comments, questions, messages and images.
Limited Public Forum
The DNR’s official social media accounts are limited public forums. All posts must relate to the original topic. Posts that are not on topic may be hidden or removed.
The DNR does not allow content that:
Is off topic or irrelevant to the original post.
Is known to be false, misleading or fraudulent.
Is profane, obscene, sexually explicit, defamatory, libelous, threatening or abusive, or that incites or promotes violence or illegal activity.
Promotes, endorses or opposes campaign activities for elected office.
Includes personally identifiable information such as a home address, phone number or personal email address.
Shares information that could reasonably compromise individual or public safety.
Promotes or perpetuates harassment or discrimination based on any legally protected class under federal or state law.
Solicits, promotes or advertises a business or product, or proposes a commercial transaction.
Infringes on patents, copyrights, trade secrets or trademarks.
By participating on any DNR social media account, you agree to follow these terms. We may hide, remove or ignore posts that break these rules. Repeated or serious violations may result in the user being blocked. These terms may be updated at any time.
Disclaimers
The DNR monitors its official social media accounts during normal business hours, Monday through Friday. The DNR is not responsible for user-generated content. The views expressed in user-generated content belong to the individuals who post them and do not necessarily reflect DNR positions or policies.
External comments or content appearing on DNR accounts, or any following, sharing or reposting by the DNR, do not imply endorsement. Individuals are responsible for the comments, questions or messages they provide. The DNR is not liable for claims made in advertisements, videos, promoted content or comments from external sources that may appear alongside agency posts.
License to Use
By participating on an official DNR social media account, you grant the DNR and its affiliates, officers, employees, consultants and representatives a worldwide, irrevocable, nonexclusive, royalty-free license to use, adapt, copy, distribute, transmit, publicly display, translate and reformat any content you share, submit, comment on or post in any existing or future media. You also agree that the DNR may publish or disclose your name or username in connection with your content.
