The Minnesota Department of Natural Resources produces and updates the statewide fire danger map daily.

The statewide fire danger map is a tool providing a relative measure of burning conditions and wildfire growth potential. The rating takes into account current and preceding weather, fuel types (grasses, brush, timber, and slash), and live and dead fuel moisture.

Dispatch

At Statewide Planning Level 1the Minnesota Interagency Coordination Center is staffing 5 days a week 0800-1630.  A duty officer is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week by calling 218-327-4558, Option 8. 

The Minnesota Interagency Coordination Center (MNCC) has a phone tree system by calling 218-327-4558

When calling, callers will be greeted with general MNCC information, and the following options will be available.

  • 218-322-2745 Intel – Jennifer Weston. Intel is staffing seven days a week 0800-1800. A duty officer is available for after hours needs. 

  • 218-322-2739 Information – Leanne Langeberg. Information is staffing Monday-Friday 0800-1630. A duty officer is available for after hours needs.

1. Regional preparedness level

Is the regional preparedness level 4 or higher?

If YES

Fire Section Manager or designee have approval authority for burn permit activation.

Area Forestry Reevaluates the contingency plan at least 48 hours prior to the anticipated burn date as provided in advance by the burn boss or land manager.

Continue to step 3. Fire danger rating.

If NO:

Continue to step 2. Area preparedness level.

Is the area preparedness level 4 or higher?

If YES

Regional Forestry Manager has burn permit activation approval.

Area Forestry Reevaluates the contingency plan at least 48 hours prior to the anticipated burn date as provided in advance by the burn boss or land manager.
