News release: Minnesota DNR webinar series offers new sessions this fall

September 8, 2026

Webinars focusing on wildlife management areas will be the centerpiece of the fall lineup for the Minnesota Outdoor Skills and Stewardship Series from the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources.

The fall series will celebrate 75 years of WMAs. Throughout September, October and November, webinars will highlight how DNR staff manage wildlife habitat on WMAs in three Minnesota biomes — wetlands, prairies and forests — and the habitat work that takes place on WMAs by roving habitat enhancement crews.

The DNR hosts these live webinars every other Wednesday at noon.

The first webinar kicks off the fall series on Wednesday, Sept. 9. Nicole Hansel-Welch, DNR shallow lakes program supervisor, and Josh Kavanagh, DNR wetland program supervisor, will provide an overview of what the Minnesota DNR is doing to enhance habitat on shallow lakes in Minnesota. They’ll provide an overview of the wetland management program and the work being done on new and existing WMAs to restore and enhance wetlands.

In addition to WMA webinars, hunting topics will fill out the rest of the fall lineup, with a Wednesday, Sept. 23, webinar featuring Paul Burr, Minnesota DNR deer coordinator, discussing the 2026 deer hunting season.
