Underground Mine Mapping - 3D Models

Three dimensional models were constructed for 36 of the underground mines in the Central Mesabi Range and 23 mines in the East Mesabi Range. These 3-D renderings depict a design view of the mines as they might have looked had the entire mine been worked at one time. In reality, due to the system of mining widely used on the Mesabi Range - slicing and caving - each level was typically collapsed before proceeding to the successively lower level.
