The trail(s):
The park features wooded hills mixed with open prairie along the wild and scenic St. Croix River. Trails range from beginner to expert difficulty. Ski trails are groomed for classic skiing only. The park does not have ski rentals, but snowshoe rentals are available.
You can snowshoe anywhere in Minnesota's state parks and recreation areas, except on trails that are specifically groomed for another activity, such as skiing or snowmobiling.

Facilities:

  • Warming house available at the Visitor Center near the trailhead.
  • Ski Passes are sold at the Park Contact Station.
  • Ski rentals are not available at the park, but snowshoe rental is available. There is 11 miles of designated snowshoe trail.
  • Winter camping is available in the backpack campground year-round (requires a 1-mile hike - there are no drive-in sites available at Afton State Park), and lodging is available year-round at the park's camper cabins and yurts. Drinking water is available at both locations.

From St. Paul, go 9 miles east on I-94, then 7 miles south on Highway 95 and 3 miles east on County Road 22.

Parking is available near the trailhead.

Park office hours are 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays. The Visitor Center warming house is open daily from 9am to 3pm.
