Snow Depth and Groomed Trail Conditions
Cascade River State Park
Trail conditions:
April 12 Update: Downhill and cross-country skiing are still happening in Lutsen over this coming weekend.The park received additional precipitation last week, but melting is rapidly occurring. The waterfalls have begun to open up and steelhead anglers have been seen scouting the river.Ski trail grooming has concluded for the season, but there remains over 20 inches of slushy, 'corn-like' snow along the trails - 'tame-backcountry' conditions along the trails still offer fun opportunities to get out and enjoy the spring.The Lakeshore trail loop is a great way to experience Lake Superior in the spring. The waterfall trails along the Cascade River are snow and ice packed - ice cleats or other foot-traction devices recommended.Park permits are required at this park and are available at the contact station at the entrance to the park or online.

The trail(s):
The trail is consistent with the North Shore topography; cliffs intermixed with forest land. All types of wildlife can be seen along the trail. Ski trails range from easy to difficult. One loop is available for the less experienced skier. Trails connect to other local trails outside the park.
You can snowshoe anywhere in Minnesota's state parks and recreation areas, except on trails that are specifically groomed for another activity, such as skiing or snowmobiling.
Facilities:
- A warming house is available at the trailhead.
- Ski passes are available outside the park office daily during the ski season. Otherwise, the park office is open and ski passes can be purchased on Saturdays and Sundays from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
- Winter camping is available. Contact park for further details.
Last updated on April 12, 2022. Local snow depth is 10-26".
