Snow Depth and Groomed Trail Conditions
Mille Lacs Kathio State Park
Intermediate and advanced ski trails in the state park are closed due to storm damage and the need to clean up downed trees and branches. The easy cross country ski trails are cleaned up, groomed and open. Starting March 17th, 2023, our snowmobile trails will be closed for the remainder of the season for maintenance.

All trails are wooded and wind through ten thousand acres of state park land. You'll find easy ski trails in river and lowland areas, moderate trails in the rolling upland forests, and challenging trails in the wooded glacial terminal moraines. Seven miles of snowshoe trails take you to areas not available at any other time of year. Snowmobile trails go through different types of terrain and also connect to the greater Minnesota grant-in-aid trail system. The park is home to deer, fisher, coyote and raptors, and porcupines are often seen in the treetops.
You can snowshoe anywhere in Minnesota's state parks and recreation areas, except on trails that are specifically groomed for another activity, such as skiing or snowmobiling.
- Mille Lacs Kathio has a trail center with fireplace and bathroom facilities.
- Daily ski passes are sold at the park office. Annual or 3-year passes are sold anywhere hunting and fishing licenses are sold.
