Trail Snow Report

McCarthy Beach State Park

Trail conditions:

The warm temperatures have created icy conditions on the trails. Heavy snowmobile use has exposed the base ice and ground especially on hills. The Taconite and Tim Corey snowmobile trails are groomed through the park and beyond but trail conditions are fair. The park's trails are icy and slippery in heavily used areas. Deeper in the forest snowshoeing is still okay but the open sunny areas are clear of snow. Cross Country ski trails are not groomed. Skiers have broke trails on the Red Top and Big Hole trails and a trail that winds through the campground and loops back along Side Lake. Parking and trail heads are located at Ski Trail or Pickerel Lake parking lots and next to the park office to access the Campground/Side Lake trail. Visitors are welcome to use the picnic shelter and fireplace for warming; purchase firewood at the park's office or use DNR approved wood. Other fun activities are bird watching, star gazing, northern lights viewing, and the sunrises have been amazing lately.

Conditions: fair
Trail groomed? yes
Trail base: 1-5"

The trail(s):

  • Winter camping is no longer available at McCarthy Beach. The campground will reopen on or after April 1st, depending on when the snow melts from the campground roads.
