Trail Snow Report

Root River State Trail

Trail conditions:

We had our best snowfall of the year this past Monday but the trail was bare to start with. The skiing is ok for now but will melt quickly with warmer temps.

Conditions: fair
Trail groomed? no
Trail base: 4"
Groomed mileage: 42.0
Difficulty: beginner (track)
Conditions: poor
Trail groomed? no
Trail base: 4"
Groomed mileage: 5.0

The trail(s):
The majority of the trail is built on an abandoned rail bed, so the trail is level. As you get closer to Houston, the trail leaves the rail bed and there is one relatively steep hill to navigate. The trail provides views of the limestone bluffs along the Root River Valley. Wildlife is abundant and sightings of turkey, deer, hawks and turkey vultures are common.
