Big Tree Champions

photo of various Big Tree Minnesota champions

Professional and amateur tree hunters are combing our state looking for an elusive trophy, a big tree. You can do it too! The Minnesota Big Tree Registry has five national champions and 50 state champions. Not all champion trees are giants. They're just the biggest reported living tree of a species. In the case of the diminutive chinkapin oak, the current champion has only 31 points and is the smallest “big tree” on our registry. Become a big-tree hunter! You need a measuring tape and ruler to get started. Watch our video on how to measure a big tree. These biggest trees are found in forests, parks, or front yards. Search the register below by type or species to see Minnesota Big Tree Champions.
