Walk in the Wildflowers
July 25, 2026, 10am-12pm, Lamberton WMA (New London area)
Join Wildlife Area Staff to celebrate the 75th anniversary of Minnesota’s Wildlife Management Area system! Participate in a wildflower walk led by the Area Wildlife Manager and discover native prairie wildflowers, learn about the history of the Wildlife Management Area system, view some of the equipment used to manage prairies, and take home 75th Anniversary themed prizes. This event will be held at the Lamberton Wildlife Management Area in southern Redwood county.
The location is 6/10ths of a mile north of the intersection of Jade Avenue and US HWY 14. This intersection is 5 miles west of the intersection of US HWY 14 and US HWY 71. Parking will be in a mowed area on the west side of Jade Avenue. RSVPs are preferred but not required. To RSVP call and leave a message for Jeff Zajac, Area Wildlife Manager, at 507-233-1257. A mowed path will be available for the walk, and please dress for the weather, all activities are outside. Sunscreen and insect repellant is recommended.Open House

Join Wildlife Area Staff to celebrate the 75th anniversary of Minnesota’s Wildlife Management Area system! Participate in family friendly activities focusing on wildlife habitat management techniques, get up close to specialized equipment, explore Minnesota's unique hunter walking trail system, learn about the history of the Wildlife Management Area system, and take home 75th Anniversary themed prizes
Dress for the weather, all activities are outside. Google Maps directions are misleading. Signs will be posted to help with navigation. Driving directions: East on 200 from Hwy 169 1.1 miles to 345th Place. South on 345th Pl for .25 mile to Rabey Line trail (shared ATV trail). East on Rabey for 3 miles to Wiedeger Rd. South on Wiedeger .75 miles to WMAHabitat Development
August 18, 2026, 4-6pm, Long Lake/Shetek Inlet WMAs (Marshall area)
Celebrate 75 years of Wildlife Management Areas by seeing and hiking through grassland and wetland areas in the initial development stages. At this open-house style event participants will discover the techniques used to transition agricultural land back to wildlife habitat. This event offers a rare opportunity to learn directly from natural resource professionals, deepen your understanding of WMA habitat management, and experience the landscapes that support Minnesota’s wildlife. Participants will take home a stronger connection to these wild lands as well as 75th anniversary giveaways.
Each activity station is located along Murray County Road 30 / Lyon County Road 14 in mowed parking areas. Dress for the weather, all activities are outside.Open House
August 20, 2026, 4-7pm, Rock Dell WMA (Rochester area)
Celebrate the 75th anniversary of the Wildlife Management Area system and join us for a unique, drive through tour of Rock Dell WMA showcasing how these lands are restored, protected, and managed for wildlife habitat. Along the route, you’ll stop at several stations learning about the importance and history of WMAs in Minnesota, highlighting habitat projects including prairie and oak savanna restoration, methods of transitioning land from agricultural fields to prairie, and discovering the equipment, tools and techniques used by land managers. Participants will take home a stronger connection to these wild lands as well as 75th anniversary giveaways.
Tour starts at the North parking lot off Olmsted County Rd 3 SW (church parking lot) and ends at the South service road off Olmsted County Rd 3 SW. Dress for the weather, all activity stations are outside.Open House
August 29, 2026, 10am-2pm, Hubble Pond WMA (Becker County area)
Join Area Wildlife Staff to celebrate the 75th anniversary of Minnesota’s Wildlife Management Area (WMA) system at the Hubbel Pond WMA Open House Event! Participate in family friendly activities, adventure out on a North County Trail Hike, learn about wild rice harvesting, discover the historic role Hubble Pond played in Forestry with transporting lumber to mills in Becker County, and take home 75th Anniversary themed prizes.
Parking is available off County Highway 29, Rochert, MN, two miles north of State Highway 34. Follow signs to access road. Dress for the weather, all activities are outside. For more information, contact the Area Wildlife office at 218-846-8476
