What can the Community Grant Program support?
The Community Grant Program can support projects in five activity areas. Your project may involve more than one type of activity.
To find the best place to start, ask:
What is the main thing you want the grant funding to accomplish?
Choose the activity area that comes closest to your project's main purpose.
Adversely impacted communities
Projects that address environmental degradation and related health concerns in communities adversely affected by pollution or other environmental harm.
Aquatic invasive species management
Projects that manage aquatic invasive species.
Preserve or enhance natural resources
Projects that preserve or enhance Minnesota's air, water, land, fish, wildlife or other natural resources.
Education and awareness
Projects that increase environmental and natural resource education and awareness.
Existing trail maintenance and improvement
Projects that maintain or improve existing state, regional or local trails. New trails and new trail segments are not eligible under this activity area.
What if your project seems to fit more than one area?
That is okay. A project can include activities or benefits related to more than one area. You do not need to divide one coherent project into separate projects just because it includes several types of activities.
Ask: If I had to describe the main result this grant funding is intended to produce, what would it be?
Use that result to identify the activity area that best represents your project's main purpose.
This information helps explain the five Community Grant Program activity areas. It does not determine whether a project is eligible or whether it will receive funding. The Request for Proposals contains the official requirements for the funding opportunity.
