Savanna Portage State Park

Trail conditions:

About 8 inches of new snow fell last Friday night. Ski trails in the park were groomed on Wednesday and are in very good to excellent condition. We will groom behind Loon Lake and the first loop at Remote Thursday or Friday. Park roads are icy so please be careful when driving them. Snowmobile trails except Lake 16 south of the park, were groomed on Thursday and are in excellent condition! We will update this as conditions change.

The trail(s):
Rolling hills with hardwood forest make up the topography of this trail. Diverse wildlife including pine martin, songbirds, wolves, bear and deer can be seen through out the park. 9.7 miles of groomed cross-country ski trails, 5.5 additional miles are groomed for skate skiing at Remote Solitude Forest Day Use Area. There are 3 miles of packed trails at Savanna Portage State Park and 5.7 miles of packed trails at Remote Solitude Forest Day Use Area for snowshoeing, winter mountain biking and winter walking.
You can snowshoe anywhere in Minnesota's state parks and recreation areas, except on trails that are specifically groomed for another activity, such as skiing or snowmobiling.

  • Snowshoes are available to rent.
  • Winter backpack camping is available at the park.

Getting there

From McGregor, take Highway 65 north to county road 14. Follow 14 ten miles to the park entrance. Remote Solitude Forest Day Use Area is one mile south of Savanna Portage State Park on county road 14.

Parking is located within the park and at Remote Solitude Forest Day Use Area 1 mile south of the park entrance.
