Taconite State Trail - Grand Rapids

Trail conditions:

The Taconite Trail ranges from fair to good condition with better conditions generally farther north towards Side Lake and McCarthy Beach State Park. The trail is being completely groomed twice per week and a third groom will occur on the busiest section's Saturday Evening.

The trail consists of rolling hills with numerous lakes and streams. Many of the hills have large areas of exposed rock and enormous boulders. The trail is heavily timbered with a mix of hardwoods and conifers.

  • Shelters can be found along the trail.

Heading into Grand Rapids on Highway 169, turn onto 3rd Ave. E. Follow for ten blocks to the trailhead.

Parking is available at the trailhead.
