Taconite State Trail - Grand Rapids

Trail conditions:

Grand Rapids to Hwy 65 was groomed on 3/12/2019. The section from Hwy 65 to Hwy 73 was groomed on 3/9/2019. Due to the rains and warm temps grooming will be suspended unless we receive a significant snow fall. There is some logging activity around Hwy 65 and Stoney Brook shelter so please ride with caution and keep to the right.

The trail(s):
The trail consists of rolling hills with numerous lakes and streams. Many of the hills have large areas of exposed rock and enormous boulders. The trail is heavily timbered with a mix of hardwoods and conifers.


  • Shelters can be found along the trail.

Heading into Grand Rapids on Highway 169, turn onto 3rd Ave. E. Follow for ten blocks to the trailhead.
