Putnam/Fishing Lakes - Bear Island State Forest
Warm daytime temps and lack of snowfall have continued to reduce our trail base, exposing more rocks and bare ground throughout the trails. As of Tuesday, March 14, grooming on all trails has ceased until we get more snow.The Putnam/Fishing Lakes trail was groomed Tuesday, March 13, and is in fair condition. Watch for bare ground and exposed rocks throughout the trail.Please use caution, travel at appropriate speeds and stay to the right.

The Putnam and Fishing Lakes Trails traverse forested, rolling topography through birch, ash, and pine stands. Several small lakes dot the landscape along these scenic trails.

The trail may be accessed from the Taconite State Trail as well as the Iron Ore and Taconite Spur Grant-In-Aid trails.
Parking is available at the Taconite State Trail trailhead in Tower.
